As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, Project Management Unit (PMU) established in Jammu and Srinagar to address the significant waste management challenges in these regions. The initiative aimed to improve sanitation, enhance waste collection efficiency, and engage the community in sustainable waste practices.


Brief Introduction of Project Management Unit

The Project Management Unit (PMU) at NIEPA came into being on 2nd February 2014 with the broad agenda of supporting and managing in-house and sponsored research. Specifically, the PMU has the following responsibilities:

(i)Managing all activities of various projects undertaken in the University right from starting the project to its conclusion;

(ii)Handling all matters concerning the funding as well as accounting of these projects; and

(iii)Recruitment and appointment of staff of all the projects.

(iv)Motivating people and teams through all phases of a successful project. Using predictive, agile and hybrid approaches to determine which way of working is best for each project.

(v)Highlighting the success of a project and its impact on overall strategic organizational goals. sixteen percent higher.

Accordingly, the PMU provides administrative support for managing various projects undertaken in the University, including facilitating the project approval process, monitoring progress in project implementation and providing related support services. It handles all matters concerning funding as well as accounting of expenditures of all in-house and NIEPA sponsored projects; also matters relating to project recruitment and appointment. The PMU staff includes the Unit Head, who is nominated by the Vice-Chancellor, and five other academic and support staff including a Project Consultant, a Project Manager and a Junior Consultant.

Though responsibilities vary depending on the type of project, they usually include: Planning project activities, tasks, and end results, including doing the work breakdown, scheduling, budgeting, coordinating tasks, and allocating resources. Selecting and organizing the project team. Interfacing with stakeholders.The PMU will have the operational responsibility for planning and coordinating M&E activities for the entire project.


Overall project management;Recruitment of consultants (PMSC);Finalize procedures and guidelines, including standard bidding documents and evaluation of bids, for procurement of civil works and equipment in consultation with PIUs and ADB; Developing annual work plans, job descriptions, staffing schedules and budgets;Coordinate with all PIUs for the implementation of GESI action plan activities
